The Atlanta Falcons are in an interesting position heading into the 2025 NFL offseason. While they are not yet genuine Super Bowl contenders, the team is on the cusp of building a competitive roster. Much of their success hinges on how effectively they use the offseason to address glaring weaknesses and take full advantage of their young talent.
A significant focus for the Falcons will be developing Desmond Ridder into a capable starting quarterback. While Marcus Mariota held down the job in 2024, Ridder is the franchise's future. It's time to focus on maximizing his potential. The Falcons must invest in specialized quarterback coaching and guarantee that Ridder gets plenty of reps in training camp to elevate his comfort level with the offense. Structure and repetition are capable of transforming any player. If they do this, Ridder can become a standout quarterback. He can develop quickly; if he does, the Falcons’ offense will become a dynamic and unpredictable force.
The Falcons need to upgrade their receiving corps to support Ridder's growth. Although Drake London is a promising young talent, they lack a true No. 1 receiver to take pressure off him. A solid, experienced receiver would give Ridder a security blanket, giving him multiple options to stretch the field and move the chains. A dual threat is always a scary thing. A wide receiver could provide immediate returns and elevate the offense to another level.
Another area the Falcons must focus on is the offensive line. The line has shown improvement but still has significant room for growth. For Ridder to succeed, he needs better protection, and the run game needs more consistency. If they can't protect the pocket, what's the point of transforming Ridder into a franchise QB? Atlanta should look to strengthen both the interior and tackle positions. Top-tier offensive linemen can flip the script.
Unfortunately, the defense is in a similar situation. While they have key pieces like Grady Jarrett and A.J. Terrell, the team still needs more depth and playmakers. We're talking about you, Linebackers. Deion Jones has been a reliable player, but bringing in a younger, more athletic linebacker could improve coverage and pass-rush capabilities. Pressure on the QB is essential. It doesn't matter how many points a reformed offense puts on the board if you can't stop the opponent's team.
The Falcons can take a significant step forward by focusing on these key areas—Desmond Ridder’s development, wide receiver upgrades, strengthening the offensive line, and bolstering the defense. The 2025 season offers a golden opportunity for Atlanta to emerge as a legitimate playoff contender if they make the right moves in the offseason.
