What are the Cardinals Facing this Offseason?
The Arizona Cardinals face a crucial offseason if they hope to progress in the competitive NFC West in 2025. With a roster full of potential but plagued by inconsistency in recent years, this is the time for the front office to take decisive action and lay the foundation for a playoff-contending team.
How can they Improve Kyler Murray During the Offseason?
The most important thing for the Cardinals this offseason is to get Kyler Murray back to full health and continue to evolve him as the centerpiece of their offense. Murray, when healthy, is a dual-threat quarterback who can single-handedly turn the tide of a game. However, consistency has been a concern. During this offseason, they need most of his refining centered around his passing mechanics and working on his decision-making in high-pressure moments. Investing in a high-level quarterback coach and offering Murray the right tools for growth will be essential for Arizona’s future success.
Protecting the Quarterback
Beyond the quarterback, the team must prioritize upgrading the offensive line. Protecting Kyler Murray and opening lanes for the running backs will be paramount. The offensive line has been one of the weakest points of the offense, often resulting in hurried throws and lackluster running plays. Adding some experienced offensive linemen, particularly on the interior, will provide Murray with better protection and give him more time to survey the field. Seems like it may be time to pick up some key talent on the O-Line to get the offense moving.
Improving the Passing Game
Wide receiver play has also been a concern for Arizona. While DeAndre Hopkins is still a top-tier talent, there’s been a lack of depth in the receiving corps. Rondale Moore and A.J. Green have been able to step up, leaving Murray with fewer weapons. The Cardinals would benefit significantly from a genuine deep threat. This would take the stress off of Hopkins. The offseason offers an opportunity to either draft a receiver with high upside or acquire a veteran presence that can step in immediately.
Dynamic Defenders
Defensively, Arizona has a strong front seven led by J.J. Watt and Zaven Collins, but they need additional playmakers in the secondary. With Byron Murphy Jr. potentially leaving, the need for a shutdown corner or safety becomes apparent. Adding young, dynamic defenders who can make an impact right away will help this unit return to its previous form and complement the offense. Strengthening the defense to match the growing offensive potential could put the Cardinals back in playoff contention.
The offseason is all about building a more balanced and cohesive team for the Arizona Cardinals. With key investments in the offensive line, quarterback development, wide receiver depth, and defensive playmaking, the Cardinals just might be able to make 2025 something special.
