Field Requirements and Ball Specifications (Advanced)

Updated: Jan 4

FIELD DIMENSIONS

Playing Lines

The game is played on a rectangular field measuring 360 feet in length and 160 feet in width. Key lines include End Lines at each field end, Sidelines along each side, and Goal Lines parallel to End Lines, 10 yards from them. The area between Goal Lines and Sidelines is the Field of Play. The Field of Play, End Zones, and Side Zones together form the playing area.

Field Structure

The Field consists of the Field of Play and the End Zones. A solid white border, at least 6 feet wide, surrounds the field along End Lines and Sidelines. Special markings exist for bench areas. Variations may occur under special circumstances with League approval.

Line Markings

Yard lines, parallel to Goal Lines, are marked every 5 yards. Inbound Lines intersect these at right angles, indicating the boundary. Markings are in white.

Inbound Lines

In line with Inbound Lines, marks at 1-yard intervals run the field's full length. These start 8 inches from the border and are 2 feet in length.

All markings must be continuous lines in white.

Goal Line

Goal Lines are placed 30 feet from the inside edge of the End Line and are 8 inches wide.

GOAL STRUCTURE

Crossbar

A horizontal crossbar, 18 feet, 6 inches long, is centrally placed in the plane of each End Line.

Goal Posts.

Bright gold, single-standard goal posts are offset from the End Line. Uprights extend 35 feet above the crossbar.

PLAYERS’ BENCHES

The home team decides whether players' benches are on the same side, starting at the 45-yard line and moving towards the goal line.

CHAIN CREW AND BALL BOYS/GIRLS

The chain crew wears white shirts, and ball boys/girls must have identifiable uniforms specified by the Commissioner.

SIDELINE MARKERS

The home club uses the League-approved standard set of sideline markers.

BALL SPECIFICATIONS

DIMENSIONS

The Wilson ball, hand-selected and bearing the Commissioner's signature, must adhere to specific dimensions: long axis 11 to 11¼ inches, long circumference 28 to 28½ inches, short circumference 21 to 21¼ inches, and weight 14 to 15 ounces.

SUPPLY

Teams provide 12 primary and 12 backup balls for Referee testing. Six new footballs, sealed and marked by the Referee, are opened two hours and 15 minutes before the game and used exclusively for the kicking game. In specific weather conditions, a playable ball may be used at the offensive team's center's request, with no Game Clock stoppage. The home team is responsible for ensuring playable balls at all times.
